At Fairway Infant School our Design and Technology curriculum has been devised to ensure that all children have the opportunity, through challenging, ‘hands on experiences’ to design, make and evaluate a wide range of products for a specific purpose (including food products). It intends to inspire creativity, imagination, risk taking, innovation and a critical understanding of the impact of Design and Technology on our daily life, and world around us, as the children explore and question ‘how’ and ‘why’ things work the way they do. As well as exploring the work of famous designers and products, we also intentionally teach key ‘how to’ skills and techniques to build up a toolkit from which our children can select and apply when designing and making their own products. Through our design and technology curriculum, we aim to develop creative thinkers and independent problem solvers that are resilient and able to offer suggestions and solutions when challenges arise as well as reflecting on their own designs and products and offering ideas for improvements.
