'The Scientist is not the person who gives the right answers, but the one who asks the right questions'
Claude Levi Strauss
Children are naturally curious about the world around them and at Fairway Infant School we aim to build on this sense of wonder and inquisitive nature through our inspiring and immersive Science curriculum. As pupils develop their curiosity, it can lead to a deeper understanding of the world and this is at the heart of our curriculum. We follow the National Curriculum and we have carefully sequenced and designed lessons to provide pupils with opportunities to acquire both knowledge of key concepts and core scientific skills through interconnected learning. We achieve this through rich and varied opportunities in the classroom and in the wider world, developing and refining the skills of independently posing questions, observation, investigation, grouping and classifying and interpreting observations and data to answer scientific questions. Children are encouraged to persevere when faced with challenges in their scientific enquiries, developing problem-solving skills and resilience. At Fairway, we aim to teach scientific concepts through the use of first-hand practical experiences to ensure learning is inclusive for all, as well as using some appropriate secondary sources, such as books, photographs and videos to support children's learning.
