Music

Education isn't just about feeding the brain.

Art and music feed the heart and soul.

Julie Garwood

At Fairway Infant School, our school vision outlines our commitment to developing the whole child and we recognise the strong place that music has in a broad and balanced curriculum. The intention of our whole school music curriculum is to encourage children to explore their individuality and to express themselves by using their voices, bodies and instruments creatively and confidently. The children progressively explore pulse, rhythm and pitch as well as improvising, composing and performing their own pieces. We follow the Charanga scheme which exposes our learners to a diverse and inspiring range of musical styles and songs and encourages them to listen carefully for specific elements and appraise the music they hear. They gain experience in playing both untuned and tuned instruments (glockenspiels) and begin to understand simple musical notation. Throughout their time at Fairway, we intend to offer the children opportunities to participate in a range of events to develop their confidence, celebrate music and singing and to inspire them to perform in a range of places to different audiences.
