Phonics Workshop for Parents

Phoneme Finder mats are visual tools used in school to support children's phonics learning. They help children identify and recall different phonemes (sounds) and the graphemes (letters or letter combinations) that represent them. These mats are especially useful during writing activities, as they give children a quick reference to help them spell unfamiliar words using their phonics knowledge. By using these mats regularly, children build confidence in segmenting and blending sounds, which is a key part of early reading and writing development.

At home, you can encourage your child to use their phoneme mat when writing stories, lists, or letters. It’s a great way to reinforce what they’re learning in school and make phonics part of everyday writing. You can also use them when reading books to help your child decode unfamiliar words.
